Ríos Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program
Initial application window extended to March 10
The initial application window for the Ríos Spanish Dual Language Immersion program is now open through Sunday, March 10. District leadership made the decision to extend the initial aplication window in order to include more families who want to be a part of the program.
Once the initial application window closes, district leadership will decide if it will be able to offer a second kindergarten section (classroom) in 2024-25. That decision will be communicated to all applicants by Friday, March 15.
What is Ríos Spanish Dual Language Immersion?
The goal of Ríos Spanish Immersion program is to provide educational experiences that support bilingualism and biliteracy in Spanish and English, as well as reinforce high academic standards and increase socio-cultural competency. The program begins in kindergarten and is continued through Grade 12 at Jefferson Elementary, Winona Middle School and Winona Senior High School.
It is the only dual language immersion program in Winona County.
All Winona Area Public Schools students will be offered the same rigorous core curriculum in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Immersion students will study the same core curriculum and Minnesota academic standards which connect subject areas.
